Coping With EOLs When Taking Over Existing Alarms

EducationCoping With EOLs When Taking Over Existing Alarms

Let's say you take over a burglar alarm system and one of the initiating zones has an EOL that you simply cannot find. Let's say the EOL value is 1,000 ohms and the system you are replacing it uses 1,300 ohms. What is a good way to deal with this issue, assuming you cannot find the existing EOL?

This is a test, so turn your papers in by the end of the period!  Also, take our EOL poll on the BBS at http://www.tpromo.com/fire-bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1577

Information: Nothing can stop a Direct Strike by Lightning, That is what you think!

EducationPecore writes "
Nothing is going to stop a direct strike by lightning!

A year ago, I would have agreed with you.  Like anything else, things change.  Churches with tall steeples are the most likely to get direct struck by lightning. Yes that is a problem.  When a steeple gets hit, EMP and EMI blow everything out.  It gets worse if Ben Franklin lightning rods are installed.  I would recommend lightning dissipaters (that is another story).  Well there is a new product that came out called a Lightning Detection System.  This devise detects the presents of lightning based on the frequency lightning emits; either through ground or the capacitance in your rods have reached their breaking point. Automatically the devise triggers an electromechanical switch to open the disconnect switch at the electrical box, and no continuity exist for single phase, or three phases, Neutral, and ground.  If lightning can not get in, it can not get out so the presents of lightning is no longer coming in or going out through the electrical AC power and ground.  That means lightning dissipation would occur upon impact around the building on the grounding grid and no feed back loop into the power grid or grounding system with in the building.  For a fire alarm panel that is an excellent chance for survival.  What is really nice, everything in the building benefits from this technology.  Cell sites have picked up on these real quick, and there is no reason why you cannot use this technology too.         "
