Killer Winter Storm Shows Digital Flaws
In Killer Winter Storm Shows Digital Flaws, Nick Markowitz, owner of Markowitz Electric Protection of Verona, PA, offers some good ideas as to why the recent storm adversely effected central station service across affected areas.
"When the power is on everything works fine, but lose power anywhere along the path and all chaos begins. Analog technology gets its power from only one end, such as POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service). Digital requires power at both ends such as T1, DSL, Cable, FIOS and other Broadband services. Some of these services provide 8-hour battery back-up, which is fine for most minor power outages, but when it goes over 8 hrs, problems can occur," says Markowitz.

Global Revenues from Alarm Monitoring Services are Projected to Exceed $41.5 bil
Global Revenues from Alarm Monitoring Services are Projected to Exceed
$41.5 billion by 2010, According to a New Report by Global Industry
Analysts, Inc.
Global alarm monitoring services market is expanding mainly due to
rising concerns about crime and panic generated by 9/11 attacks and
increasing sophistication and lower cost of security systems. Demand
for fire and intrusion alarms is increasing due to rising awareness
levels.
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) March 18, 2008 -- Contrary to the earlier days of
alarm monitoring systems and services, the current maintenance costs
have become quite reasonable. With the reduced costs of subscription,
more and more people from the residential sectors are seeking to own
one. Heightened fears of burglary, terrorism and fire accidents have
forced the commercial sector to look out for much-sophisticated
equipment such as access control, video surveillance, and
satellite-based global position location monitoring along with the
conventional fire and burglary monitoring systems.
