Sunset

SUNSET
I watch the sun at even-tide sink slowly in the west.
At first a glorious yellow ball that finally goes to red.
Beneath a rainbow colored cloud far in the western sky.
Then a hush is heard, the whole world knows that God is nigh,
Even the little birds seem to know the wonder of it all.
For just as fast as each one can, they fly to their tree so tall,
Then their singing turns to chirping, then no sound can you hear,
As the sun fades and fades they know that God is near.
I hope that when I come to the sunset of my life,
The glorious unfolding will ease the worldly strife,
And I shall again see the sun sink slowly in the west.
