WHO SHOULD WE FEAR?

Who, or whom should we fear most... foreign terrorists or OUR federal government?

Who, or whom should our government fear most... foreign terrorists or OUR citizens?

    Editor's Note:
I have always considered myself to be politically conservative, and have patriotically supported our government and military, and will do so in the future. But the old “what if” question keeps popping into my mind every time I read or hear about some of the new proposals related to the Homeland Security Bill and other somewhat totalitarian ideas being tested of late.

As the results of the 2002 elections came in, and the media analysis, e-mail rhetoric, and workplace discussions took place, it appeared that we finally established a foothold toward winning the war against liberalism and socialism (extreme left) in the United States.

If the conservative trend in voter turnout continues, this may be the case. Call it what you will; the swing of the pendulum or just a tilt of the political balance, but we must realize that it is a very delicate balance that holds together this almost perfect republic.

The most recent political events and news items in circulation have prompted me to consider how easily this delicate balance could be upset. And, as I previously mentioned, we seem to be winning the war against the extreme left for now, but just how quickly could we move too far to the right, and fall down that slippery slope into fascism?

I have always considered myself to be politically conservative, and have patriotically supported our government and military, and will do so in the future. But the old “what if” question keeps popping into my mind every time I read or hear about some of the new proposals related to the Homeland Security Bill and other somewhat totalitarian ideas being tested of late.

The Pentagon’s Big Brother database, which will record [every] personal and business transaction and communication of everyone in the U.S. seems a little extreme to me, Pentagon's Database Will Be Too Powerful!
as does the Bush administration’s proposed MANDATORY smallpox immunization plan.

In a society where we have already given up so many free choices without a fight, we may be all too ready and willing to surrender more freedoms for the ILLUSION of safety or security!

If You think we still have many free choices in our society, just walk into an automobile showroom and look at all the brochures and the diversity of models on display... a lot of choice there, right?

WRONG!. I defy you to come up with just one model that don’t have those GOVERNMENT MANDATED time bombs, called AIR BAGS, installed.

I always use my seat belt/shoulder harness because it makes sense to me. But I still have a choice as to whether or not I want to buckle-up (pending a possible traffic ticket). But with air bags, THERE IS NO CHOICE.

It literally becomes a federal case if you dare to seek permission to disable the air bag system, and if by some miracle you obtain permission to have an on/off switch installed, I doubt you can find a car mechanic with enough guts to tackle the job because of fear of liability.

You are damned if you do and damned if you don’t use them when there is an accident and a child is involved. [see... Another Airbag Death: Grandmother To Be Charged!]

Then there are the human implant chips... These little grain-sized tracking (SPYING) devices are being touted almost on a daily basis now as the savior of mankind. Commentary Link... ANOTHER LOOK AT I.D. CHIP IMPLANTS...

But how long will it be until these little “Digital Angels” become MANDATORY?

We have all this technology laid out before us now, but who can we trust to be the custodian of such devices and the POWER THEY GIVE TO THOSE WHO CONTROL THEM? The potential for evil, in my opinion, far outweighs the implied good of these inventions.

We have attained cutting edge, futuristic-looking pilotless aircraft that now have evolved from benign observation aircraft into ground attack weapons, which can drop bombs and fire missiles.

At first, I would say hurray for the good guys, as long as the weapon is used to neutralize the bad guys. But suppose we become involved in a conflict where the majority of the people (civilian and military) feel certain that we are on the wrong side this time. The pilotless aircraft have now ELIMINATED THE MORAL JUDGEMENT OF A HUMAN PILOT. An entire squadron of these new weapons systems could be controlled by just one computer operator who is loyal to the ruling party and its cause!

They say we are living in a brave new world. Yes, my friends, this is why we will need to muster up more courage than we ever have before in order to mentally survive this new and awesome age thrust upon us.

    According to God's Word:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

    ~~ 2nd Timothy: 1:7

I suppose that my slant on things may be a giveaway as to my age. But I can’t help remembering how little I had to worry about as a child and teenager growing up in the 1940's and ‘50's. The things I am reading about now and see on the TV news were only science fiction back then.

Maybe I was too naive in those days, but I did not even take the Russian nuclear threat very seriously. And as it turned out, it was not until the Cuban missile crisis of the ‘60's that either side came that close to pulling the trigger.

The Holy Bible tells us not to fear. And I can testify that I am grounded in the Faith and God’s Word through Jesus Christ. But maybe it’s time for just a [little] alarm right now.

May God grant us (U.S.) WISDOM!
