" Silver supplements carry greater potential for harm ". That was the title of the report on page E-3 Mon. 9/15/03.
The "Night Rider" drug salesman gave a non-response to a reader's question that could harm many people.
The reader asked two questions: Is colloidal silver safe? Is colloidal silver effective as an alternative to antibiotics?
Any Pharmacist who did not flunk second year chemistry would know that Seasilver is not colloidal silver. Silver, while lethal to bacteria is non toxic to Humans. Colloidal silver, by definition , is particles of silver so small they stay in dispersion in distilled water by only their electrical charge. The bottled product Seasilver lists ingredients like seaweed, herbs, aloe juice, ect.
Any pharmacist should know if you added colloidal silver to any mixture like that, the colloidal silver is gone. It binds off and forms silver salts , silver protiens , silver nitrates , rendering the silver of no use. The reader asked about colloidal silver. Pharmacists know where to find safety data and toxicology reports like the one on Silver Biotics. The standard test is called LD-50 established by FHSA regulations. Based on it and EPA ( ECAO-CIN-026 Jan."91" Pg.VI-3 & 4 ) a normal sized adult can drink one ounce of this 10PPM solution every day for 72 years with NO TOXIC ACCULULATION. I would call that safe.
The reader also asked, " is it effective? " Pharmacists know how to find reports on Clinical Human Trials. That brand , Silver Biotics, was tested for a year , by Harvard trained Medical Doctors , at an Air Force Hospital. It was given as an alternative to antibiotics to 120 patients suffering from a wide variety of infections , with out one failure. Now tell me, how could a Pharmacist have missed that? I have been a student of this for many years. Some silver solutions are better than others. Some brands might be " missbranded " as the add some other solid or have excessively high ppm , but I have yet to see one documented case of even " silver-blues " ( Argyria ) , from drinking a properly manufactured colloidal silver. HAVE YOU? -30-
